Fostering a digital culture within teams: strategies for training staff in off-site digital mediation skills

Reading time: 3 min

Fostering digital culture in the teams of cultural institutions is a key aspect for effective adaptation to the requirements of the modern world. Particular attention should be paid to the development of digital mediation skills among employees, which is the foundation for effective communication of culture in virtual spaces, i.e. outside traditional stationary spaces.

Digital mediation means transferring cultural experiences to virtual spaces, beyond the physical presence of the audience in the institution. In this case, employees of cultural institutions not only prepare content for online use, but also become guides who can create an engaging and comprehensible experience for remote users.

Strategies for training employees of cultural institutions

  1. Technical and technological training: Organize workshops to enable employees to master digital tools for creating, editing and distributing online content. These trainings may include operating streaming platforms, creating interactive exhibitions or conducting online workshops.
  2. Digital communications training: Developing skills to communicate with online audiences, including on social media, and to create engaging digital narratives and effectively manage virtual events.
  3. Cooperation of different departments of cultural institutions: Organizing training for employees of different departments, such as promotion and customer service, to develop faster and more effective methods of informing audiences.
  4. Cooperation with experts: Establishing cooperation with specialists in new media, digital technologies, user interface design, who can conduct training for employees of cultural institutions and help them adapt to digital requirements.
  5. Hands-on activities and group projects: Engaging employees in hands-on projects, such as organizing online events, creating video content, or collaborating on digitizing cultural resources.
  6. Feedback and impact analysis: Regularly monitoring employees’ progress and evaluating the effectiveness of training. Feedback from trainees will help to adjust educational programs to their actual needs and enable improvement of future training.

Adequate training of employees of cultural institutions allows them to develop the skills necessary to work effectively in the digital space. With the right training strategies, these institutions can become more accessible, innovative and inclusive.
