ART&SIGNS
What is it?
The project ”ART&SIGNS” allowed a group of 16 museum professionals working within ”Moldova” National Museum Complex of Iași, Romania, to acquire a set of basic communication skills useful for the interaction with deaf persons or with people with hearing difficulties.
Why is it important? / How can it help the professionals of the cultural sector?
The project included 16 training sessions within one month and a half carried out in the educational room of the Palace of Culture, the main building of “Moldova” National Museum Complex, and involved the participation of specialists from several departments of the organisation. The trainings were provided by a certified deaf trainer provided by ANPEDA, able to communicate also verbally in Romanian.
It is important because it can be replicated in any museum organisation provided there is opportunity.
Taking part in the project, ”Moldova” National Museum Complex of Iași, Romania, has become the first museum in Romania that has staff officially trained in the basic usage of Romanian Sign Language, thus considerably contributing to increasing the qualitative level of the museum experience for the visitors belonging to the deaf community.

“We are very proud that some of our specialists had the opportunity to receive basic training into the usage of Romanian Sign Language, and that we did not give up, as this is not at all an easy task, it requires very good coordination and also considerable adaptation skills” Raluca Pintilii, museographer, “Moldova” National Museum Complex of Iași, Romania
