The Tourism & Handicap label

What is it?

The Tourism & Handicap label (Label tourisme et handicap) is a French State brand for tourism establishments.

It aims to reward tourism stakeholders for their efforts in accessibility and enable them to communicate effectively with customers with disabilities.

It takes into account:

  • easier access to buildings
  • access to the institution’s services
  • the personalised welcome reserved for tourists in terms of attention and kindness

A certified institution, thus meeting these criteria, is subject to regular monitoring by trained and specialised evaluators.

Visual pictograms make it possible to distinguish the handicaps concerned:

  • auditory
  • mental
  • motor
  • visual

Why is it important? / How can it help the professionals of the cultural sector?

This brand is advantageous for cultural institutions which obtain recognition for offering an accessible establishment, and can be recognised easily by the public concerned. Receiving the label is a voluntary decision, taken by the establishment out of a will to be accessible. It is a competitive advantage to get this label, as it is the only state mark awarded to tourism professionals who are committed to a quality approach focused on accessibility to leisure and holidays for all.
