RéCIT project organised by the Signes de Sens association
What is it?
RéCIT is the Réseau Culture Inclusif Territoire (Inclusive Culture Network Territory). It is a group of people working on Inclusive Culture. The RéCIT project group is made up of 15 participants. Half of the participants are local cultural players. The other half are self-representatives with disabilities. The RéCIT project supports the Hauts de France region and cultural establishments in their transition to inclusive culture. The inclusive cultural transition is the change towards a way of thinking and doing culture with, by and for everyone
Why is it important? / How can it help the professionals of the cultural sector?
The work consists in regularly organised meeting and workshops where potential inclusive solutions are discussed, as well as the competencies of every person involved and analysing how these competencies can be useful for the project. These people are also talking about their previous cultural experiences and how they can be reused or improved to create a more accessible cultural experience. One of the discussed aspects was for example the visit of a person with a disability in a cultural establishment, from the preparation, through the access to the museum, to the way people with disabilities would navigate through the potential exhibition. The RéCIT project wants to come up with a tool that will, based on these analyses, let evaluate the level of accessibility of every cultural establishment and of every cultural offer. The RéCIT project is being tested for a year. This project is important, because it involves people with disabilities that are suggesting the best solutions adapted to their needs, that they would like to see in cultural establishments.
