Methods of Application for the Implementation of the Charter for an Accessible, Inclusive, and Equitable Culture
What is it?
This document covers the articles of the Charter for an Accessible, Inclusive and Equitable Culture, proposing different courses of action for applying each article. These courses of action have been collected over the project’s four years (2016-2020), and offer different strategies to respond to the challenges faced by cultural institutions and organisations. Given the complexity of the issues relating to accessibility, inclusion, and equity, it is important to stress that no cultural organisation, nor institution has the means to implement all at once, all of the courses of action proposed in this document. Rather, it is a tool for strategic planning purposes for each organisation and institution in applying the Charter and responding to the challenges met in terms of accessibility, inclusion, and equity.
Why is it important? / How can it help the professionals of the cultural sector?
This document provides a structured framework and concrete courses of action to help cultural institutions navigate the complex issues of accessibility, inclusion and equity. This is crucial to ensure that culture is accessible to all, regardless of physical, sensory, cognitive or cultural barriers.
The approach proposed in the document recognises that each organisation has different resources and capabilities. By offering a variety of strategies and courses of action, the document allows each institution to choose those best suited to its specific situation and needs.
The document is designed to be used as a strategic planning support tool. It helps cultural organisations to implement more inclusive practices in a progressive and manageable way, which is essential for sustainable and effective change.
Professionals can use the document’s action points to assess and improve their current accessibility and inclusion practices. This enables them to respond more effectively to the diverse needs of their audience, improving the cultural experience for all visitors.
