National Institute of Museums and Collections Protection

What is it?

One of the statutory tasks of the National Institute of Museums and Collections Protection is to support museums in making their collections accessible to everyone – including people with visual, hearing, mobility or intellectual disabilities. To this end, the institute organises various training courses for museum staff. It also creates and makes available its own publications that can help museums to make their collections and offerings accessible to people with disabilities.

The institute’s activities are very helpful to museum professionals thanks to its varied activities. This expert organisation promotes good practices (e.g. recommends competitions for museums), research programmes (e.g. “Statistics of museums”, “Museometer”), creates in cooperation with museum professionals and disseminates standards in various areas of museum activities (digitisation, inventory and storage of museum artefacts, accessibility, security, provenance research), runs financial support programmes for the museum sector (e.g. “Support for museum activities”, ‘Development of museum resources”).
