Accessible exhibition and museum tours guide
What is it?
A free guide of accessibility in museums, downloadable on the website of the French ministry of culture.
It is addressed to all professionals in the museum field, and it is designed to help them create more accessible exhibitions (permanent or temporary). It is a set of recommendations and technical sheets regarding every aspect of an exhibition : methodology and project management, partnerships, scenography, lighting, use of sound, graphism, multimedia, furniture, etc.
Why is it important? / How can it help the professionals of the cultural sector?
This guide is a very complete tool, as it addresses all types of disabilities. It gives insight on difficulties that might be faced by people with disabilities, that might not be obvious for people creating the exhibitions. This guide opens the dialogue between people and promotes goodwill.
The guide also provides technical sheets which are practical and condensed pieces of information on specific topics. These topics can be as diverse as:
- reflection on glass display cases
- the use of color in scenography
- the use of subtitles
