Access-i

What is it?

Access-i can be used to assess the level of accessibility of a building (either during the design phase, during renovations or afterwards to see what is adapted or needs to be adapted), site or event, based on the needs of different groups with special requirements. Access-i reflects the accessibility efforts made by infrastructure managers and informs people of the conditions in which they will be welcomed so that they can fully enjoy their visit.

Why is it important? / How can it help the professionals of the cultural sector?

Access-i goes beyond the basic accessibility symbol of a white wheelchair on a blue background to provide a detailed assessment of a venue’s accessibility across various needs, including mobility, vision, hearing, and cognitive dimensions. This comprehensive approach ensures that all visitors, regardless of their specific requirements, can have equitable access to cultural experiences.

By clearly communicating the level of accessibility, Access-i allows individuals with special requirements to know beforehand what accommodations are in place, reducing uncertainty and enhancing their overall experience.

The initiative encourages infrastructure managers to make continuous improvements in accessibility, promoting an inclusive approach that benefits not just individuals with disabilities but all visitors. It fosters a culture of inclusivity within organizations.

For professionals managing cultural venues, Access-i provides a framework to assess and improve their facilities comprehensively. This tool helps identify areas where enhancements are necessary, guiding investment in infrastructure that makes the venue more welcoming and accessible.
